Copy this map and print it as large as you can - the detail is very useful!
The flat is shown (highlighted by the white address box). The roads are shown in white, the walks and pathways are those shown in orange.
Some important notes!
Please note: Bed linen is not provided at the flat, but if you take your own it can be washed in the Washing Machone in the flat, or if too large, in any of three local launderette's..
Traditionally, Sundays see all shops shut in France, however there are two supermarkets at the end of the harbour in Place de la Barbeque that are open on a Sunday - Spar and Casino - useful if you arrive late on a Saturday.
For more general shopping, outlets in tourist areas tend to charge a little more than other areas - from the flat, follow the road to AGDE. You will come to a roundabout where on your right is a warehouse shop called BUT. Turn left here and you are at the entrance to the local Intermarche Supermarket - approx 5 mins from the flat by car. Drive past this and follow the road and you will come to the Hyper U Hypermarket, three minutes further on.
For local shopping and gifts, holiday stuff, as well as some more bars and restaurants, leave the flat by the front door and cross the road walking towards Plage Du Mole. To your left there will be a few bars and the Salbhotel. Next to this is a footpath with numerous shops, bakers, bars, Pharmacie, small supermarket, butchers, grocers etc - follow this path to the end and you will cross a footbridge into the Harbour. At the end of the footbridge you will find a Post Office and the Gendarmerie, as well as a Tourist Office, however the main Tourist Office is in the park shown on the map above.
During the season, Tuesdays, Thursday and Saturday see the local market (enormous) which takes up the parking areas opposite the park - ten minutes walk from the flat - where you can buy just about everything including food and clothing. For those who wish it, on a Sunday morning, follow the road to SETE (where there are some excellent sea food restaurants) you will see signs to Marselan Plage and you will also come across the Marselan Car Boot Fair - again this tends to have some very nice items reasonably priced, but it may test your French a little!.
Days out? There are about 50 leaflets in the flat for the various local attractions - all within an easy days journey. These range from Vineyards, Ancient Monuments, Castles, Churches and Chateaux to boat trips on Le Canal Du Midi, Market Days in local villages, Amusement Parks, Exhibitions, Caves and Grottos (all natural!) Golf Courses, etc etc. There are entertainments for all ages, the very athletic and the less so - something there for everyone!
AGDE town is also only a short journey (4k) away - worth a visit, especially on Market Day - there are numerous shops in the old town as well as Banks etc if you need them. There are also a number of Restaurants on the edge of the river which is still the home of part of the local fishing fleet.
SETE, about 18k away along the beach road is a very old fishing port. If you follow signs into the town and park, a walk behind the fishing warehouses reveals a number of excellent and reasonably priced seafood restaurants. MONTPELLIER some 20k further on is also worth a visit, particularly the old town.
To the south, there is the Palace of Majorca in PERPIGNAN and numerous beaches on the way down to COLLIOURE, probably the most picturesque place on the whole coastline with its Fort, Royal Palace and Chapel as well as a good selection of artisans shops, bars and restaurants.
A little further for the more adventurous is Spain - from Collioure, only about 30k from the Spanish Border and three hours from BARCELONA by train.
