Wealdstone FC moved safely through to the next qualifying round of the FA Youth Cup last night (27/9) with an emphatic victory over Harefield United with a 6-2 scoreline.
Stones goalscorers were: Ashley Fashanu (2), Ade Kelani, Jide Awonusi, Jack Sikora and Mitch Salapatas.
Following this excellent performance Stones Youth are rewarded with an away tie in the 2nd qualifying round at Thamesmead FC on Wednesday 10 October, 7.45pm ko.
The Football Scholarship lads don't start their league season until the middle of September, therefore pre-season did not start until Friday 3rd August.
Pre-season games have been coming thick and fast since then, with two fixtures at Kodak and the rest at Broadfields.
In the opening fixture on Wednesday 8th August the lads opened with a 2-3 defeat to Dunstable Town, with some 65 lads to give games to squads have changed from match to match, often with eleven players playing one half and another eleven playing the second half.
The morning of Monday 13th August saw a second defeat of the season this time to a touring American college team.
The lad's first win of the season came two days later on Wednesday 15th with a 3-2 win over Molesey.
Monday 22nd saw a 1-1 drew with Edgware, before another victory on Wednesday 22nd against Burnham 3-0. With most teams starting their season in the first week of September, Harefield United and Chesham United both came to Broadfields on Wednesday 29th. Both games ended in defeat for the Stones 1-2 against Harefield & 1-3 against Chesham.
Wednesday 5th September saw one game take place, after a late postponement of the nights other fixture due to the tube strike. The game that did take place was against Pinnacle and resulted in a 1-0 victory.
The Stanmore College team started their league season on Wednesday just gone with an away fixture against Kingston in the newly formed English Colleges Football League Premier Division. In the past few years there have been a number of regional leagues (last season the college team played in the South East Division), however with the league growing stronger two Premier Divisions have been set up, Southern & Northern. As runners up to Kingston last season Stanmore College have been placed in the Southern and now have trips to Bristol, Swansea and Birmingham and Suffolk to look forward too in the coming months.
Meanwhile the Football Conference Youth League starts this coming Wednesday afternoon. Wealdstone "Stones" are at home to Thurrock in the Central Conference on the 3G pitch at Hillingdon Borough FC, kick off 2pm and the Wealdstone "Royals" travel to Dartford in the Central Conference South East. On the same afternoon the college team are at home to Solihull, this match takes place at Kodak.
Make a note in your diary's for our away FA Youth Cup 1st Qualifying round fixture with Harefield United, which takes place on Wednesday 26th September with a 7-30pm kick-off. Harrow Borough or Thamesmead away await the winners of this tie.
In the Middlesex Senior Youth Cup we have been drawn away to Northwood and this fixture is due to take place on Wednesday 17th October. On the same evening the reserves are away to Harefield United in the Middlesex Premier Cup, 1st round.
